Whether you have experience with a needle and thread or not, this sewing workshop is suitable for everyone. I will guide you through the basic techniques to successfully master the Irish Log Cabin Block. In a small group, we have enough time to practice the newly learned in a relaxed atmosphere.

It is one of my favorite ways to create a Log Cabin Block.

Manx quilting or patchwork originated on the Isle of Man (Manx) in the centre of the Irish Sea, between Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Like other patchwork blocks, Manx was born out of necessity, as everything had to be brought in by boat and you had to make the best of what was available. You don't need rulers and rotary cutters to sew a Manx block. Your own hands serve as a yardstick. Traditionally, there are only four rows in these quilt blocks. The centre is usually red.

In this three-hour workshop, you will learn how to create the Log Cabin pattern for your Manx block using your hand and middle finger as a guide and how to prepare the background fabric onto which the fabric strips are then sewn by hand. You will receive expert tips on how to use needles, thread and how the thimble can help.

By the end of the workshop, you will have a good idea of the possibilities offered by this centuries-old sewing tradition and will be prepared to apply and develop what you have learnt for your own projects.

Please note: As is typical with textile handwork, these things take time. It's not possible to complete your project on-site. The more time you invest, the more beautiful the result will be.

If you are looking for assistance with any questions from home after the workshop, consider booking my additional offering:
