New Skin For A Landscape
Workshop talks with malatsion
Further dates:
October 25, 2024
Concluding exhibition:
November 29, 2024
Three workshop discussions will take place from September to December 2024. They relate to a work of art to be realized, which represents a spatial model of a landscape adapted to climate change. The framework art project New Skin For A Landscape, initiated by malatsion, deals with the water cycle in the landscape and determines the order and sequence of the workshop discussions. Malation invited me to take part in New Skin For A Landscape as a cooperation partner.
We begin the workshop discussions with the presentation of the SEA (Socially Engaged Art) project and introduce the overarching topic of water in the landscape. malatsion presents current examples of implementation and also scientific backgrounds.
In the hands-on part of the workshop discussions, we wash raw wool from sheep - whose wool fleeces are normally disposed of after shearing these days - and lay it out to dry. We card wool that we have already washed, try wet felting, form felting, spinning and sewing the felt pieces together. If time permits, we dye with plants. The process is at the heart of the making. We refer to traditional ways of felting, such as carpet felting in Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the Shyrdaks and Ala Kiiz. When spinning with the spindle, we are inspired by traditions from the indigenous peoples in South America, the USA and also by local traditions. Carolin gives an insight into the background and why we consider these to be relevant for the project.
The workshop discussions will conclude with a One Night exhibition and the presentation of a booklet. November 29 is scheduled for the time being.
